My wife and I live in a small apartment and really wanted to move but financially it seems like we should just re-sign here, so as a consolation we’ve allocated some of the cash we’d been saving for deposits/fees for some home improvements. Not having a garage or power tools or really any woodworking experience makes this difficult, so I did some pipe and precut board shelves on a cart to extend counter space and give a little storage space for less frequently used appliances. Matches the desk I built her over the winter quite nicely. Pretty happy with how it turned out, it was a little more expensive than I hoped but very minimal skill/labor involved.

Thanks! I love the look too and it's just so damn easy to build with, sturdy as hell too obviously. I'm decently mechanically inclined but don't know shit about wood so this system is amazing for me, and it's nice to still be able to get pretty much the exact dimensions you want within an inch or two without having to even make any cuts.

My in laws have just moved in and I’ve been thinking of making a similar desk. Home Depot has a bunch of butcher block in various lengths in stock, and I’ve made a few shelves and what not out of the gas pipe before.

Your stuff looks great!

Yeah the desk is a 24x28 butcher block on 3/4" black pipe, the cart is just precut Aspen boards, 16"x36" on 1/2" galvanized pipe. The coating on the black pipe ended up being less than ideal for furniture use so at some point that may get redone in galvanized also.

The fittings make for it being really adjustable to make wobble free in your space I imagine too.

This is something I’m going to use in the future - thanks for sharing!

They do, i had to get a pipe wrench to crank down on some of them to level the desk, but because the cart is on casters and the tile in our apartment isn't super level I didn't really worry about it much on the cart, just kinda did it by feel. Definitely excited to do more like this, TV stand might be next, I'd be happy to share tips or whatever if you have questions but it's pretty straightforward other than avoiding the black pipe as the coating can rub off on your pants or whatever, I might paint the galvanized pipe black with some acrylic at some point instead.
